Hey Mark, I think you should write what's in your heart and mind, and people will enjoy it no matter what. I could read just about anything so long as I get a sense that you're passionate about it. If I absolutely had to choose something from your list, I would love to hear more about old time radio. I'm fond of listening to radio dramas from the 40s/50s 😁
I agree with Brian. I feel most engaged in reading with the author is sharing his authentic self. I learn so much from what others have to say on a myriad of topics. I like music, TV, movies, writing, and so many other things. I'd also love to hear a little of what life is like in your neck of the woods. Kentucky and Mississippi aren't *that* far from each other, but I like hearing about other places, cultures, customs, idiosyncrasies.
I guess what I'm really trying to say is be you. I'm reading. :)
Thank you, Holly. One of the main reasons I always enjoy reading blogs is to get a look into someone else's life. Their trials, tribulations, and victories are usually very relatable, so I perfectly understand what you mean. Appreciate the feedback and thanks!
Actually, I just noticed the photo in the post. Is photography a hobby (even if amateur)? That photo makes me want to know about the story behind it--how many other cool photos do you have? how was the Florida Keys? what were you feeling when you took it (peace? because it looks so serene!)?
Photography isn't a hobby, but I like capturing shots every once in a while. I don't think I quite have "the eye" for it, but glad you liked it. This particular picture was one I took the morning we were heading back home from The Keys. I moved from Kentucky about 12 years ago to Florida when I met my wife, so it was only about a 4 (maybe 5) hour car trip. The place we stayed at wasn't the greatest, but the scenery couldn't be beat and they had a great pool. I took quite a few shots, most turned out o.k even though it was with my phone :) My feeling at the time was probably a bit of sadness as we had to go home from our very first vacation together as a married couple. I would wholeheartedly recommend The Keys as a vacation spot, just make sure to do your research and pick your lodgings wisely.
And that is something I enjoyed reading! Most of photos are captured with my phone. Scratch that...all of them! Thinking about your self-description of not having the eye for it, it's kind of like writing. Your perspective is just that--yours. Go for it, whether you "have the eye for it" or not. Your posts may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I'll wager they'll be a strong cup of coffee for a good deal of us!
I agree with you, and Brian. I have never been interested in sports, but a couple of sports writers are so passionate and eloquent I just loved reading their column, whatever the subject for that week.
Unlike a lot of people, I have a lot of time for King Charles. I think in areas like organic farming and, yes, talking to plants he was years ahead of his time.
I agree with Brian, Holly, and Rebecca. Just write whatever you want. If you write stories told from your heart, people will enjoy them. There are a boatload of things you can write about. Just when I think I won't be able to think of anything, I read another person's newsletter and I see a subject that I didn't think about. And it will remind of something I did. And instantly, I have something to write about.
As soon as I saw the photo of Islamorada, I thought of the thousands of photos I have taken. You just helped me with another subject I can write about. :)
Decent choices in your poll, Mark, and I have voted, but I’d love to read anything that means something to YOU! I’ve always loved stories told by authentic voices. If YOU continue to do YOU, well, that’s me happy right away. :D
I'm the same way, really. Even if it's something I don't know much about, reading about it from the point of view of someone with passion can really make the difference. Thanks for the feedback :)
Hey Mark, as has already been said, you should write what you feel like writing. Personally I like reading memoir stuff.
And before I go, just to add a bit of counter balance, while many Brits do feel sad, just as many Brits couldn't care less about the Royals and find it absolutely ridiculous the level of cultlike worship they are afforded by the media and the people who go in for it all.
Honestly, I don't know a single person my age (39) or younger who gives a flying f***.
My parents' generation it's a different story. I know my uncle was upset by it. But please don't think all Brits are like that.
Hey Kris, thank you! That does seem to be the general consensus and I appreciate the feedback!
Oh, I know not all Brits like the Royals and I wouldn't lump everyone together like that. I've never been a huge fan of them either (being an American and all), but The Queen did seem like a fascinating figure. I just wanted anyone who was touched by her death to know I sympathized :)
Indeed . apart from great lyrics, eg Ain't no stopping us now, apparently the beat matches the human heart beat, hence the positive vibe. Paradoxically, I find Blues cheers me up. I love it, so I think I will take the advice of Holly etc Al and write about that on my 'stack
There was a time, when I was younger, that I found myself getting into the Blues and Jazz...then it faded and I'm not sure why. I still like listening to both every now and then and that sounds like a great topic. Looking forward to reading it.

Very good point and thank you, Brian. I appreciate it.

That's true and I realize I can't appeal to everyone, but I'll take serving some coffee anytime. Thanks! :)

Thank you for condolences. Many Brits feel sad.
I can only imagine, and I hope the new King follows in her footsteps.

Thanks, Matthew. I believe you're right and it seems to be the general consensus. Glad I was able to help with an idea :D

It will be interesting to see how thus turns out!
I believe it will be, yes! :)

Disco music is great! There is some really good jazz funk based on disco -- or the other way round! Ain't nothing to be ashamed of!
Disco is the best. Always upbeat and positive. What's not to like?? :)
